Behavioral and social sciences (BSS) have made important contributions to HIV research since the beginning of the epidemic. The most important way to integrate BSS into HIV clinical trials is to include multidisciplinary behavioral and social scientists on the research concept and protocol teams from the earliest stages. The US National Institutes of Health (NIH) embraces the above and promotes this topic.
